I am finding that creating the perfect cover is one of the hardest parts of this writing process. The hardest part of any cover is the blurb. The back few sentences, the ones you want to have power, the ones that will open your eyes to what lay inside the cover, and the ones that will make you want to read the book. How hard it is to crunch all the wonderful dynamics of a book into a few sentences. To fold and compress a full manuscript, be it 40,000 words or 1500,000 words into only 100 or 200 words. How impossible is that? At this point, this small segment that I have written is only 565 words.
The best thing to happen to me was to enter a cover contest and somehow, I won. The person creating the cover asked me for some information and I gave it to them, to the best of my ability. What a wonderful job they did, and now, I can see it. The book cover I always wanted but didn’t know how to make. The first view of the cover and I had to ask myself how she read my mind. The cover is almost complete, and this beautiful person even helped me write the blurb, that terrible and torturous thing that can make or break a book.
